8 Simple Hacks to Save Money

Did you know that there are discounts offered to students on different programs and memberships that usually are not widely shared?

Our Health Care Administration student, Sanjay Bondada, shares some hacks on how students can save money during their College time, from transportation discounts to music streaming and to loyalty programs!

  1. TTC Student fare and Go Transit student pass – Transportation is essential for all students, and they can sign up for the Presto student fare with a valid ID and get up to 40% off the full adult fare. Presto student cards can be purchased at any Subway stations (Presto card vending machines) or at any Shoppers Drug mart. Once it is purchased, you can register for post-secondary student pass  to avail student pass. If you do not have your ID yet, you may use your timetable as well.

  2. SPC – The Student Price Card (SPC) gives students online and in-store discounts for many major retailers, including H&M, Adidas, Nike, Apple, Dell, and more. The discounts generally range from 10% to 30% off but are different for each store. You can get this SPC by downloading the application from PlayStore or Apple store based on your device. For CIBC holders, the bank is providing free membership for international students and I have joined that membership very recently.

  3. Student Beans Student Beans is a free program where you can get exclusive college student discounts for fashion, health & beauty, and tech & mobile retailers for both in-person and online purchases.
You can register for this account by providing demographic information along with a verification check with the student mailing address. In our case, the email ending with SL.ON.CA. Once verified, you are good to go!

  4. Adobe – This is great for students who need to use the Adobe suit for creative work: students save 60% on the Creative Cloud All Apps plan.

  5. Booking.com – Students with an SPC card can save up to 50% on travel bookings when they verify their student status.

  6. Amazon Prime – Students receive a free 6-month trial of Amazon Prime Student, then pay $4.99/month after. You can avail this and get some amazing deals frequently when some of the items are running out of stock in local stores. Also you can play games, listen to ad-free music, and get early access to deals as well.

  7. Spotify – Students get Spotify Premium for only $4.99/month while enrolled in school. Similar to Amazon Prime, subscribing to Spotify not only enables you to get quality music, but also provides access to research and Podcasts which is quite interesting.

  8. Apple – Current and newly accepted university students get Apple student discounts on Macs and iPads with Education Pricing, which is about 10% off.
