Academic Appeals

Alpha’s Academic Appeal is the student’s opportunity to seek fairness when they receive a grade that they believe does not reflect their efforts in a course. In following our appeal process, we expect the student to provide accurate information at all times. Failure to do so may result in discontinuation of the investigation and/or other penalties.

Grounds for an appeal:
•There was an error in calculating your grade
•Your grade does not reflect your academic performance or you were graded different from other students in the class
Not grounds for an appeal:
•GPA requirements or financial complications due to COVID-19
•Your instructor is a hard marker
•The assignment or test was too difficult
•You were disappointed with the mark because you put in a lot of effort

STEP 1:

  1. Meet with your instructor immediately.
  2. Review any details with the instructor and discuss any concern.
  3. If you disagree with any arrangements, proceed to the next step.

STEP 2:

  1. Fill out an Appeal Form, which is available at alphacollege.ca/student-resources, within five days of receiving the grade.
  2. Email the Appeal Form to info@slc-alpha.ca or drop it off at the Front Desk.
  3. An Appeal Advisor will contact you and may request any supporting documents regarding your claim.
  4. The Advisor will review the materials and communications shared, and provide you his/her decision in writing.
  5. Should you continue to appeal, you may proceed to the next step.

STEP 3:

  1. Within 3 business days of receiving the Advisor’s written decision, you may be required to pay an administrative fee of $50. Email your Advisor that you want to continue the process.
  2. A committee meeting will be set up for your appeal which may include yourself, coordinators, school executives, student ambassadors, and faculty.
  3. Remain calm and professional in your meeting. At any point that the conversation is not civil and respectful, the meeting will end early.
  4. After the meeting, you will be provided with a written statement of the final decision of your appeal.

Reminder: Monday, October 9th, is the Thanks Giving Holiday and Alpha College will be closed.
